My research interests focus on biodiversity in forest ecosystems. Particularly I am interested in deadwood ecology especially tree hollows and saproxylic insects. Tree hollows are long lasting habitats that are considered key elements of a high forest diversity supporting generalist saproxylic species but also very rare species. I am interested in environmental factors affecting the diversity in tree hollows, dispersal abilities and distances and trophic interactions of saproxylic insects.

The conversion from plantations to mixed forests is a major goal of forest management strategies in the light of climate change, as mixed forest stands are less vulnerable to biotic and abiotic disturbances. Therefore, I am interested how forest conversion, from pure to mixed forest stands affects forest associated taxa, e.g. insects, fungi, plants and birds.

My research aims to get insights into patterns of forest biodiversity and how to integrate these insights into forest management for efficient conservation strategies.
